Perhaps My Best Round of Golf Ever
I’ve been playing golf for over 75 years. About every decade or so I would shoot a really good score. I’ve had several 78s and 3 holes-in-one. The other day was one for the books. Just 18 days until my 85th birthday and I shot a 74. It was a brisk cool day and there was little wind. Over the first 12 holes I had one birdie, 9 pars and 2 bogies. On the 13th, a par 3 with a long carry over water I had a triple bogie 6. Then I had a couple more bogies and 3-putted the 18th. I wasn’t necessarily hitting pure shots and I don’t hit the ball very far any more but I putted well and had some lucky bounces.
Full Disclosure: The course is easier than most. From the tees that we played, the course was only 4,600 yards. Par is 67. When I shot my 78s early in life they were on courses that were about 6,000 yards and par was 72.
But hey, I’m 85.
